Every Valentine’s Day we are bombarded with messages why the occasion is a lame one. There are people who actually celebrate Anti-Valentine’s day with the same vigour as the real day is celebrated. Everyone seems to think, at least in public, that celebrating Valentine’s Day is just a waste of time; it’s really a show off.
Yet, millions wait eagerly for the day. Whether we admit or not, we all want a nice surprise on that special day. It often makes me wonder why we behave so coyly about celebrating and rejoicing our love. Valentine’s Day seems like a perfect example of how we want something and act just as the opposite. Let’s see what makes us so contradicting around this February date.

It often makes me wonder why we behave so coyly about celebrating and rejoicing our love. Valentine’s Day seems like a perfect example of how we want something and act just as the opposite. Let’s see what makes us so contradicting around this February date.
• ‘it’s so lame…’ and may I ask why?
Chances are very high that you are going to get this reaction from almost everyone if you say that you’re going to celebrate 14th of February: ‘it’s so lame’. If you ask back what makes it so, I think you‘re going get no clear answer. Yes, I get the logic of no need to keep one day for the one relationship that is supposed to last one lifetime. But, don’t we celebrate birthdays?
I think the real answer to this conundrum is like this: we all want to feel special on the day. We all want to relish how our special one shows off his/her affection for us. But, love being such a confusing matter; we don’t want to reveal our desperate need to be loved.
• OK, so we are being just crabby?
Crabs are famous for taking sideways to reach their desired goal. Apparently, they never take the straight line path to reach their goal; they go in a twisted, weird way. Our behaviour regarding Valentine’s Day seems to fit the crabby approach.
Every year thousands have great fun on 14th of February. Whether their hopefulness is momentary or everlasting, the point is this: these people are not afraid of celebrating and opening their hearts to others. And as the saying goes: some you win, some you lose, but you’ve to take the chance at happiness.
• Less stress bring on the madness
Once we shake off the fear and reach out to have fun, we might actually live a stress free, easier life. Well, it’s a cliché that having fun lessens stress and the truth makes it a cliché. So, enjoying a hearty Valentine’s Day with your beloved may really be an excellent occasion to have great time. And, in this busy life and time, we need official days to get released from work on an acceptable or at least arguable pretext!
Shaking off the contradictory approach to love and rejoicing it full throttle has a proven formula: give your beloved some well-thought gifts and receive some in return. If your beloved stays in Pakistan, you can send Valentine’s Day gifts to Pakistan and complete the ritual of Love’s official date. This way, you will have just another day to enjoy happiness and cherish the amazing bond that makes your life complete. And, there’s no contradiction about loving and giving gifts.
