One needs several servings of vegetables and fruits every day. But many fruits may burn a hole in your pocket. At the same time, it will not do well to cut corners as you will end up with less nutritious food.
Don’t go for spending money on watered down, sugary substitutes for healthy fruits and vegetables. But don’t get stuck also with expired produce in your kitchens.

Go for the following tips to make sure your money goes a long way to secure you fresh fruit and nutritious diet:

•    Start a home garden: Discover whether you have a green thumb, and this is a difficult task if you don’t have a natural inclination. Begin with simple seeds like peas and tomatoes, which are resilient plants. Other reliable plants include spinach and radishes. One quality required is patience, and you also need to devote energy and time to get a high quantity and quality produce.

•    Consult friends: If you are not able to grow a productive garden, approach friends who have a green thumb.  Friends will be ready to share their farm produce, and in return, you can offer to take care of their plants when they are away on holidays.

•    Visit farmer’s markets: There are many perks to shopping from local farmers such as

1.    Less costly than supermarket vegetables and fruits

2.    Pesticide-free, healthy, organic produce, which have no preservatives

3.    Encouragement for local, small business, which is less expensive and more eco-friendly.

If you are unhappy with the size of organic produce, it is wise to know that many big companies inject harmful chemicals to fatten the fruits. This will have a harmful long term impact on your health.

•    Pick some fruits on your own: If you don’t have local farmers markets in your vicinity, look out for local orchards and farms where you can pick the fruits and vegetables on your own. It beats growing fruits and vegetables on your own. Another plus is that a trip to a farm or orchard makes for a great family outing.

•    Consider the season: Fruits and vegetables out of season are more expensive.  This is because not all fruits grow the year round. Getting fruits out of season requires extra shopping and travel expenses. If you want to save money, focus on what are in season like grape fruits and straw berries in spring, and pears and apple in fall.

•    Ascertain date and time: If you are sure, you will consume fruits and veggies in a day, you can go in for super deals, which are nearing expiry date. In a farmer’s market, you have great bargaining power towards the end of the day. If you don’t buy, framers will have to cart back the produce wherein it is in danger of rotting.

•    Keep track of sales: Fruits and vegetables on sale get exhausted fast, and it is wise to shop early.   Deals are based on surplus produce, so check for freshness and expiry date.
These are some of the ways in which you can buy fruits and vegetables efficiently. One can also send fresh fruit basket to Pakistan after selecting fresh fruits and vegetables to fill up the basket.
